Rent a Camera Lens - Try it out, then buy it if you like it - Great Concept
Christmas season - stuff goes on sales and seeing how the prices are dropping for certain things, I want to get my hands on a DSLR. I know I have a ton of options, but I'm mainly set on buying either the Canon Rebel XTI, or Nikon D40, D40x, or maybe the D80. I've got lots of research ahead of me to decide which one works best for me. The problem here is that $1200 or more is a pretty big commitment, and I'd like to test drive a few cameras before I settle for one.
I can't rent a DSLR or can I? - Introducing Rentglass.com - It's like Zip.ca (or .com), but for renting expensive lenses for your Nikon or Canon. It's amazing. Works almost the same way, but can get expensive depending on what lens you want to rent. They also rent camera bodies, but for now it's only the Cannon 5D and the 40D, and neither of those bodies are in my purchasing price range.
It's good to know that when I get a DSLR I will be able to rent a lens for a fairly good price. If I take a vacation or go to a big sporting event (Vancover Olympics for example) I'd definitely want to rent one of their telescopic lenses. It's the thrill of shooting with a new lens, especially when you can have such good glass. Unfortunately they don't ship to Canada yet, but maybe by the time the Olympics come around(2010), they will.
For now, I'm going to continue researching my camera choices, and see if there is another way I can test out my candidates.
