Kindle Ripped Apart - "It's almost modern" says Philippe Starck
When I read the article - Starck reviews Kindle at LeWeb3 - On Robert Scoble's blog, I had no idea who Philippe Starck was.
After Googling for him, it turns out he is a world famous designer. Some examples of his work are stunning. After reading that; his review of the Kindle was a lot more interesting to listen to. He pretty much ripped it apart, saying "it's almost modern". That's gotta hurt.
He mentioned some great attributes that a 'new age' product should have. The video from LeWeb3 is worth watching.
Why didn't Amazon think of hiring a good designer to evaluate this product? Doesn't seem like they had any focus groups, otherwise they would have realized right away that the size and placement of the 'forward' and 'back' buttons was horrible.
But like I had said, it's a really good business model, if only Amazon could come up with good enough (user friendly) hardware to support it.
