Popular Direction - iPod to Facebook and now to Android
For the past few years, I have noticed a trend with regards to popular products and start-up companies. Most of them spring up around one product that will get them into the market, and then they can work their way from there, or hope and pray that they will get bought out by a bigger giant for billions of dollars.
So, first it was the iPod. Tons of new companies started making accessories for it. Everything from the iPod socks, to funky docking stations, to weird feeling silicon skins. With tons of people using the iPod, someone was bound to buy a few of your new ‘space-age’ accessory.
Then came Facebook, other social networking websites and companies started making applications, plugins and modules for them. With the announcement of Open Social, it is just going to get more people interested in developing – thus creating more start-ups.
Now with the announcement of Android - Open Source Mobile Phone Platform. Again, another thing to get a lot of developers excited and possible spring a few start-ups. Also with the announcement of the Android Developer Challenge (prizes worth $10 million) will definitely add some fuel to the fire; we can expect some really cool things.
Again, these are just my observations, and maybe they are really obvious but did you blog about them? Haha.
